An early Irish Georgian carved giltwood mirror in rococo style in the manner of Richard Cranfield circa 1760.
Description
The later 19th century bevelled plate within a frame carved with flowers, leaves and scrolls retaining much of the original oil gilding.
Richard Cranfield 1731-1809, Caple St., Dublin, was a highly skilled carved, exhibited at the Society of Artists. Examples of his work in Mansion House, Provosta’s House, Dublin and National Museum of Ireland.
A giltwood frame attributed to him for Sir Joshua Reynolds portrait of the Duke of Northumberland hangs in the Mansion House, Dublin.
